Rail siding would boost NT mining projects


THREE key mining projects proposed for the NT, which have the potential to create several thousand new jobs, would leap towards final investment decision if a railway siding was built where the Plenty Highway intersects the Ghan Rail line, the proponent of the Territory’s next copper mine says.

The NT News is reporting KGL Resources' Jervois project would create more than 650 construction and operations jobs.

“We have to truck the minerals to Alice to get it to the rail and so will other potential mines such as Arafura Resources’ Nolans Rare Earths project and Thor’s Molyhil project,” KGL Resources executive chairman Denis Wood said.

“A common user rail siding would be a great source of encouragement to investors for all three of these significant Territory projects.''
