Olympic Dam Mine expansion on fast-track list

Major projects will have their approval times slashed under environmental laws in a federal bid to fast-track billions of dollars of building work in the recovery from the coronavirus crisis.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting Prime Minister Scott Morrison has vowed to cut approval times by 25 per cent by the end of this year in a "streamlining" of the federal process for mining expansions, roads, rail and other big projects.

Mr Morrison named 15 priority projects including the expansion of the Olympic Dam mine in South Australia and the Marinus electricity link between Tasmania and Victoria.

The government estimates the 15 projects to be worth more than $72 billion in public and private investment and to support 66,000 direct and indirect jobs.
