Green light for Marinus Link from Tasmania


TASMANIA’S ambition to become the ‘Battery of the Nation’ has been given a huge boost with the green light for the $3.5 billion Marinus Link Bass Strait power cable project.

The Hobart Mercury is reporting the project is tipped to create up to 2800 jobs, mostly in regional Tasmania.

The Australian Energy Market Operator's 2020 Integrated System Plan identified which major infrastructure projects should proceed in coming years and included Marinus Link – two 350km high-voltage cables designed to export 1500 megawatts of Tasmanian renewable energy into the national grid.
