Lynas to build $500m plant in Kalgoorlie


Rare earth miner Lynas will build its new $500 million cracking and leaching plant in the historic gold mining town of Kalgoorlie. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Kalgoorlie was selected from two shortlisted locations in the Goldfields region

The plant will perform the first step of processing rare earth material from Lynas' Mt Weld mine, about 300km north-east near Laverton, that had previously been shipped to Malaysia.

Lynas expects work to begin in earnest on the plant in 2021, expected to create about 500 construction jobs in the city of 30,000. Read the full story
